Senator Nessa Cosgrove

Nessa Cosgrove is a Senator, a former Sligo County Councillor and currently a Labour Party spokesperson for Rural and Community Development, An Gaeltacht and Worker’s Rights.
Before entering politics full-time, Nessa practiced as a Youth Worker in a variety of roles and organisations in the Voluntary & Community sector. A mother of three teenage children, she is a committed advocate for the voice of young people to be heard in decisions which affect their lives. Nessa has a strong interest in the Irish language, culture and history, an interest fostered by her parents while growing up in West Cork. Nessa moved to the North West over 25 years ago and has lived and worked in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal during that time.
Since entering Seanad Éireann in 2025, Nessa’s political priorities have all been based around equality, including workers rights, concern for the environment and a fair distribution of resources to all parts of the country and sectors of society, particularly in the North West.
