Gerry Farrell

Gerry Farrell has had twin careers – one in mental health and one in theatre. He taught at Trinity College, Dublin and at ATU Sligo where he lectured on Applied Social Care. He was also a tutor on the NUI Maynooth community based course on addictions studies. As a clinical supervisor and psychotherapist, he has processed clinical and personal dilemmas with countless numbers of people. His theatre work has involved writing, directing and acting. It includes a stage adaptation of Ulysses, which has been performed in many venues throughout the world. He is the author of three historical plays produced by Prin Duignan of SPLODAR Theatre Company. His plays explore contemporary psychological and social themes from an historical perspective. His work in the area of dementia has fused both his theatre and clinical knowledge in order to develop ground-breaking techniques to help families and professionals involved in dementia care. He is the Leitrim Guardian Person of the Year 2026.
